100 Acts of Goodwill: Goodwill Leadership Volunteers at Founding Church

100 Acts of Goodwill: Goodwill Leadership Volunteers at Founding Church

On December 6th, Goodwill leadership, including President and CEO Jackie Hallberg, along with Board Members Jim Boris, Zilber Ltd., President and CEO, and Mary Dowell, MJ Dowell & Associates LLC, Principal Consultant, participated in an Act of Goodwill at the Summerfield United Methodist Church meal program for Milwaukee residents experiencing homelessness.

“For me, this volunteer opportunity was very personal,” said Jackie Hallberg. “At Goodwill we care about the whole person – helping people get and keep a job includes learning about the barriers to work they experience so we can connect the people we serve and employ to the appropriate support and community resources.”

In 2019, Goodwill encouraged employees to create 100 Acts of Goodwill through volunteer activities inside and outside of Goodwill to help address barriers to work. These volunteer acts are also a perfect reflection of our 100-year history. In 1919, Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin began in the basement of Summerfield; as the organization celebrates its Centennial year volunteers have been engaged in various ways to create positive impact at the church and at organizations across the communities where we all live and work.

Eight short months after the initiative launched, employees achieved 100 Acts of Goodwill. Through employee volunteerism, Goodwill served 40 organizations across southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. To close out the year, senior leadership and board members volunteered at Goodwill’s founding church.

“Creating Acts of Goodwill in our community deepens Goodwill’s local impact and serves as a meaningful way to engage our employees,” said Angela Adams, Goodwill Vice President of Community Relations. “It’s a perfect way to honor our past, celebrate our present anniversary and help shape future Goodwill leaders through volunteerism.”
