Jennifer Houston

Jennifer Houston is the Program Manager at the Goodwill Center for Work and Training in Greendale (GSC), a day program for individuals with brain injuries and physical disabilities. She graduated from Marquette University and began working for Goodwill in 2006 as a case manager before being promoted to supervisor in 2010. In addition, she has been a foster parent since 2013 and a consultant for Saint A since 2014.

This year, a new partnership between Day Services and Retail has Goodwill Store & Donation Center leaders “Inspired by People.” Several store leaders had the opportunity to spend a day working with our Clubhouse and Day Services participants at the Goodwill Center for Work and Training – Southwest Campus. By assisting with art projects, cooking classes, and even being a bowling coach for the day, store managers have had chance to see, first hand, the ways in which Retail revenue helps drive Goodwill’s mission of providing supportive services to people with disabilities or disadvantages who seek greater independence.

At the Center for Work and Training in Greendale our Clubhouse participants’ favorite things about the Fourth of July are the parades and the cookouts. With that in mind, staff and participants sought a parade of their own so every participant could have their own chance to march in a parade.

Holiday Bazaar a hit with customers

The Goodwill Day Services programs held their annual Holiday Bazaar on Friday, November 17th, at the Goodwill Center for Work and Training – Southwest Campus (GSC). All six Goodwill day programs worked for months to create the unique collection of art, food, home décor, and bath and body items that were for sale.

Community Opportunities Club North hosts Flower Power 5K run/walk

Goodwill’s Community Opportunities Club North started their very own Mileage Club with the help of Recreation Assistant Joey James. Participants walk laps daily on the outdoor, paved, quarter-mile track. With hard work and a competitive spirit, they built up their stamina to participate (and host) in the program’s first ever Flower Power 5K fun run/walk held on May 25.

Tap the Potential Fashion Show–A Great Opportunity for Partnerships

Goodwill Adult Day Services has been hosting an annual fashion show for nearly ten years. At first it was held in Waukesha County with 15 to 20 models. Over the years, the fashion show has grown and taken on a life of its own. In 2011, the annual Day Services fashion show moved to Milwaukee County, becoming an opportunity for even more Goodwill participants to strut their stuff. At our latest show, every day program member participated and there were nearly 30 models.
