It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around the Goodwill Center for Work and Training in Greendale! Program participants, staff and Goodwill guests were welcomed back from the Thanksgiving holiday to beautifully decorated trees, hanging snowflakes and ornaments, twinkling lights and glowing reindeer. It truly is a winter wonderland! Christmas really is a magical time of year, but it’s even more magical here at Goodwill!
Seeing these decorations made me appreciate the organization I work for. Everyone was so appreciative of our creative and talented staff members who took time out of their busy schedules to help decorate our building. And, what a fun way to show recognition - allowing employees the opportunity to express themselves and show their talents outside of their regular job duties - and provide those employees with the ability to interact with other departments! According to a survey by Globoforce, of the companies that spend 1% or more of payroll on recognition, 85% see a positive impact on engagement (SHRM/Globoforce Employee Recognition Survey, 2012). A positive impact on engagement is seen with employees immersing themselves into their work, not because it’s their job, but because they feel good about doing it; they enjoy the role they play within the organization, and they feel just as important to the organization as we know they are.
Our Goodwill Center for Work and Training (GSC) is home to Goodwill Day Services, Goodwill TalentBridge, Goodwill DataShield, Work Services and our vast realm of shared services. While we all strive for the same mission, with so many departments in one building, each with a wide variety of job functions, we’re always grateful when we have the opportunity to come together. Later this month we’re looking forward to our annual Holiday Party! The family at GSC will gather for crafts, a holiday meal and of course, dancing!
