Life Skills Development volunteers rewarded by Hunger Task Force

Goodwill Life Skills Participants and Staff at Hunger Task Force Annual CelebrationEach football season, Hunger Task Force and Sargento team up for their signature “Touchdowns for Charity” program. When the Green Bay Packers score a touchdown, Sargento donates $1,000 to fight hunger in Milwaukee!

Every Wednesday, Goodwill Life Skills Development participants and staff volunteer for the Hunger Task Force’s Senior Outreach program. They pack hundreds of boxes with essential food items that will be delivered throughout Milwaukee County. Packaging accuracy is crucial to ensure that each person is receiving the supplemental nutrition that the Hunger Task Force provides. After the boxes are filled they are quality checked and loaded onto pallets. The dedication and enthusiasm that our participants displayed did not go unnoticed! Because of this, the Hunger Task Force invited us to their annual celebration.

Hunger Task Force Annual CelebrationThe event began with a speech and Q&A from Green Bay Packer tight end, Richard Rodgers, who caught the famous “Hail Mary” pass and scored a touchdown against the Detroit Lions. Sargento then presented a check to Hunger Task Force for $39,000. A buffet lunch catered by Saz’s restaurant and a nacho bar by Sanford’s restaurant followed the check presentation.

EAT CAKE! Bakery served a cake that was designed to look like a Sargento semi-truck.  Not only was the cake esthetically beautiful, it was possibly one of the best cakes we ever had!

Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, our participants and staff members had the opportunity for an autograph and photo session with Richard Rodgers. And, we received a souvenir to keep forever!

Everyone is looking forward to next year’s celebration after another year of volunteering is complete. Special thanks go out to our participants and staff, Marie Jewell from Hunger Task Force, Sargento, Saz’s, Sanford’s, the Green Bay Packers, and last, but not least, Richard Rodgers!
