Fresh, Fun, Fabulous tour at Waukesha Floral & Greenhouse

Posted by Leslie Chisholm on May 26, 2017 3:36:50 PM

Goodwill particpants take a tour of Waukesha Floral and Greenhouse and learn about different flowers and plants.Sarah H., Carleen D. and Lorraine L., Goodwill Community Opportunities Club members, had a fresh, fun and fabulous tour of  Waukesha Floral & Greenhouse on Prairie Avenue back in April.  They viewed the beautiful atrium decorated with seasonal items, cooler room filled with available floral selections,  and the greenhouse and the warming house with the variety of potted flowering plants.  They learned about the different “seasons/times” that the floral shop prepares for throughout the year.

Prom season was coming and staff needed to prepare for all the different colored corsages, and of  course the greenhouse was  preparing for the upcoming gardening season.  Our participants learned about the tasks the greenhouse employees  needed  to do to prep throughout the year. All the annuals, perennials and vegetables were being placed in the pots for purchase.

Sarah, Carleen and Lorraine were given a demonstration on flower arranging.  Then, each was given a nice basket, foam block, two types of carnations, white tulips, fern leaves and a silk butterfly so they could create their own arrangements.  Typically this is a class that people pay for, but the staff was very generous and gave all the materials to our participants for free.  Carleen stated the outing was interesting.  Lorraine enjoyed her time there and liked learning the different terminology for the items. (The foam block is called oasis).  Sarah was very proud of the arrangement she created and was all smiles carrying it off to the bus to show to her parents when she got home.

Be sure to check back in a few weeks to learn about some more adventures!
