Exciting day camp adventure for Community Opportunities Club members

Goodwill Community Opportunities Club visits Kohler Andre State ParkThe excitement of our day camp trip at Kohler André State Park had been building for months; finally the day arrived. On July 26, the first group from our Community Opportunities Club South, consisting of Rebecca, Mike, Todd, Sandy, Noelle, Brin and Jessica, began their adventure at the TeePee site where they enjoyed lunch. Afterward, they took a nice hike down to the lakefront where some folks waded into the lake to cool off. After their hike they decided to head over to the Nature Center where they had the opportunity to touch and explore numerous animal pelts and saw live turtles and snakes. The group Collage2.pngthen explored the observation deck at the top of the Nature Center. The group returned to the TeePee and Brin made an awesome fire and the campers roasted hotdogs and ate dinner. On the way home, the group enjoyed a custard treat.

On July 27, the second group, consisting of Marvin, Cheryl, Nick, Mike, Linda and Jan, took their turn for Day Camp at the park. They scouted out a lovely picnic area that bordered the sand dunes. The group hiked on a path that led through the dunes to the lake, which was surprisingly calm and warm. A picnic lunch in the shade followed the morning hike. During lunch the clouds thickened and a thunderstorm blew in. Luckily, the campers were inside the Nature Center when the storm broke. It was fun to watch the sky and lake change from the safety of a full wall of windows. Since the rain stuck around, the group headed up to Sheboygan to the Kohler Art Center to see the current exhibit of dream-inspired artwork. The group decided to eat supper at Culvers in Saukville on the return trip.
