René Jovel Receives Milwaukee Business Journal’s Top Corporate Counsel Award

René Jovel, deputy general counsel and director of legal operations, has received the Milwaukee Business Journal’s 2022 Top Corporate Counsel Award. Jovel is one of five award recipients to be honored for their contributions as in-house corporate attorneys who are vital to their organization’s success.

“This award is a tribute to my incredible support system both at work and at home,” said Jovel. “Receiving this recognition goes beyond an award. As a first-generation Latino attorney, I hope to inspire and show that this industry is one where anyone and everyone can belong and excel.”

Jovel has over a decade of expertise in employment, corporate and transactional law. He started his career with Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin and Metropolitan Chicago in August 2017 as in-house counsel. In January 2022, Jovel was appointed to his current role where he is responsible for defining legal and business strategies to drive the organization forward. Jovel is also responsible for day-to-day operations of Goodwill’s legal and compliance department and the development of its talent.

“René is instrumental in creating effective positive change and providing innovative leadership within Goodwill, its legal department and beyond,” said Basil Buchko, vice president general counsel and chief compliance officer. “His continued dedication to the organization solidifies not only the success of Goodwill’s legal and compliance strategies, but also strengthens the department’s commitment to growth and transformation within the entire Goodwill community.”
