Goodwill Industries of Metropolitan Chicago to open Melrose Park Store & Donation Center

Goodwill Industries of Metropolitan Chicago will open a store & donation center in Melrose Park, Illinois. Goodwill is a non-profit social enterprise providing employment, training and support for people experiencing barriers to work serving communities in metropolitan Chicago and southeastern Wisconsin.  

Goodwill currently operates 70 store and donation centers across its territory which encompasses 23 counties in Illinois and Wisconsin. The organization has a focus on environmental sustainability, diverting almost 140 million pounds of clothing and household items from landfills in 2020.Revenue generated from customers and donors directly impacts the services and support Goodwill provides for people with disabilities and disadvantages.   

In 2019, Goodwill served over 6,000 people in Cook County, Illinois as a part of its mission as a workforce leader including connecting local job seekers and employers through its Workforce Connection Centers and through Goodwill TalentBridge, a full-service staffing and recruiting firm. Goodwill also employed 1,755 Cook County residents working across various areas of the organization.  

“Goodwill is excited to become part of the Melrose Park community to have the opportunity to serve its residents,” said Dan Michael, vice president of retail stores and donation centers. “Beyond providing an outstanding shopping experience for our customers, we are creating jobs and awareness about our mission. We look forward to getting to know our new neighbors.”  

The Melrose Park store and donation center is located at 200 W. North Avenue and scheduled to open Friday, June 11, 2021. The new 18,000 square foot facility will showcase a completely updated look and feel as the thrift retailer transitions to a modern aesthetic with wood grain, brass fixtures and a warm color palate. Shoppers and donors in the Melrose Park community will enjoy a safe, contemporary shopping experience and can expect to find a great selection of items, all donated from the local communities Goodwill serves. Goodwill will begin accepting donations at the Melrose Park location on the same day as the official store opening.   

A leading workforce provider for over 100 years, Goodwill runs a robust retail operation, an ecommerce platform, a commercial laundry and linen service, Goodwill TalentBridge - a full-service staffing and recruiting firm, and Goodwill Great Lakes which provides food service, administrative and logistic services, and laundry services for the U.S. Navy. Additionally, mission services include training programs and employment services for people experiencing barriers to work, support and resources for job seekers, day programs for people with disabilities working to gain confidence and independence and a home delivered meal program.
