A Parade of Their Own and More!

At the Center for Work and Training in Greendale our Clubhouse participants’ favorite things about the Fourth of July are the parades and the cookouts. With that in mind, staff and participants sought a parade of their own so every participant could have their own chance to march in a parade.

Participants worked very hard in the weeks leading up to the big day. Each Clubhouse member had the chance to create a red, white and blue tie-dyed T-shirt to wear for the event. One of our Recreation Assistants, Laura Gonzalez, worked with participants to make over 100 red, white and blue beaded necklaces and bracelets to wear for the parade, and Rec Assistant, Mark McGrath, helped everyone decorate a patriotic wagon to pull as our very own parade float with Joey James as our parade marshal.

After our exciting parade, staff and participants sat down for a great picnic lunch. Many of the side dishes had been prepared the day before by Club members with the assistance of Kelly Wood. Everyone agreed that the meal was delicious! But, the fun wasn’t over yet. After lunch, we all went outside for a water balloon fight. Everybody enjoyed playing water balloon games, having a water balloon fight, and even spraying each other with the hose. A special thanks to Facilities Manager, Bruce Jacobson, for helping to set up this wildly successful event.

This truly was a fun event for all!
