Act of Goodwill provides training opportunity for local college

Written by Goodwill Staff | December 23, 2019

Members of our Goodwill Store & Donation Center management volunteered to assist students at the College of DuPage as they conducted mock job interviews for members of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community.

The mock interviews offered a perfect opportunity for the students to practice their interpreting skills and it also gave members of The Deaf and Hard of Hearing community the ability to practice for their own job interviews.

"This was a perfect fit for our mission," said Richard Zakes, Goodwill Regional Store Manager. "It's training for the students that were here and helping people with disabilities. In essence, we were training (the Deaf and Hard of Hearing participants) on how to interview and enhance their skills, too. It's just a perfect fit for our mission and a no brainer to be here."

This was also a great opportunity for our store managers because it gave them a chance to learn how to support an employee who might be Deaf or Hard of Hearing. In addition, it gave them an opportunity to reevaluate their interviewing techniques for the future.

Goodwill is proud of this newly formed partnership with the school and looks forward to working with them in the future!
