Devonte began his journey with Goodwill’s Empower One program back in August 2018. He joined Project Search, interning at the Milwaukee County Zoo. After completing Project Search in 2019, Devonte teamed up with a Job Developer from Goodwill’s Supported Employment program to find a job in his area of interest.
Devonte enjoys cleaning and was looking to be placed in a hospital setting. With the assistance of his Job Developer, Devonte began a Temporary Work Experience at Aurora Psychiatric Hospital as an Environmental Services Assistant. He made a great impression during his TWE and was offered a part-time position at Aurora in August of 2019 and has been employed there ever since.
At Aurora, Devonte plays a major role in helping to keep the hospital clean and sanitized so that both staff and patients are safe.
With the support of his Job Coach, Devonte learned the responsibilities involved with having a job, and the importance of a positive attitude. He receives many compliments from staff and patients alike. Devonte has shown perseverance during this recent time of uncertainty in our community and continues to receive the necessary support to strengthen his success. With this being a critical time for all of us, Devonte and his job coach have had to overcome some challenges and are needed now more than ever to assist those who really need it.
