Goodwill Named BizTimes’ Nonprofit Collaboration of the Year Award Finalist

August 2, 2024

Goodwill and United Way for Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County are named a BizTimes Media Nonprofit Collaboration of the Year Award finalist. The organizations were recognized at the BizTimes’ Nonprofit Excellence Awards program for the United For Good program.

The Nonprofit Collaboration of the Year Award recognizes a collaborative project between nonprofits that takes an innovative approach to meeting a community need and achieves meaningful impact.

“Collaborative partnerships are essential to delivering our mission,” said Suzanne Maldonado, Goodwill Vice President, TalentBridge and Business Development. “We are thankful to our partners and networks of support. Together, we are fostering successful employment outcomes and an equitable world of work where all people can pave a path to the future they dream of.”

United For Good

In 2022, Goodwill and United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County developed the United For Good program to address a critical workforce challenge: finding more certified nursing assistants to support the greater Milwaukee community. United For Good is a recruitment and training program that creates opportunity for people from under-resourced communities to enter the high demand healthcare field with the support and resources needed to be successful.

The program supports people through the Certified Nursing Assistant training and testing process by providing paid job skills training, assisting with goal setting and supportive coaching, and connecting them to employment opportunities in the Milwaukee community.

Since program inception, more than 108 new certified nursing assistants have been added to the Milwaukee labor market. With most being placed in a local school district they are also directly impacting students, enhancing health outcomes throughout the district.
