Goodwill is proud to announce that our interns at the Milwaukee County Zoo and the Milwaukee County Airport have graduated! Ceremonies were held at both locations for the graduates to celebrate their accomplishments. The interns were joined by families, friends, program staff and airport and zoo employees who have supported the young adults in their efforts at improving job skills and moving forward in their journey toward gainful employment.

The goal for individuals in Project SEARCH is to develop both job and social skills through on-site internship experiences that lead to competitive employment in the community. Interns go through three, 10-week rotations in many different areas, providing on-the-job training and a chance to grow skills.

Both the zoo and airport staff support the program and our interns, and encourage them to achieve their goals. Project SEARCH Skills Trainer Machaela Schultz, who works at the Milwaukee County Zoo, said of the staff, “The managers at all the rotations are very hands-on and supportive of our interns. These managers expose the interns to opportunities to go above and beyond to ensure their success.”

Project SEARCH Skills Trainer Abigail Smith, who works at the Milwaukee County Airport, said, “My favorite part about working with the interns is having the opportunity to help them grow. I’m fortunate to see the transformation they make from the start of the year to the end of the year. Seeing them become more confident in themselves is truly rewarding.”

The graduating interns prepared speeches and videos highlighting their successes throughout the year and presented them to attendees, which included families, friends, supporters, dignitaries, along with zoo and airport staff.

Congratulations to our Project SEARCH interns – we know the sky is the limit for you!

Where are they now?
