The Community Opportunities Club (COC) West located in Waukesha was excited to host the first “All Center Mother’s Day Craft Event” on May 10. Our participants and staff had quite a bit of prep work to do prior to the big event! COC North graciously donated 50 white bags to us and the COC West team began to assemble them together the day before. Each bag included a flower pot (shaped as a teacup or a teapot) that our participants would be able to decorate, plus many other items.
Jennifer G. folded the tissue paper, Lisa S. placed the tissue paper into the bag, Tracy B. added zinnia seeds, Carleen D. filled plastic baggies with potting soil, Lorraine added the soil into the bag and Folks from all COC sites joined us and the staff set up the tables for each center that included paints, brushes, aprons, tea pots, tea cups and bowls filled with a variety of baubles. Participants decorated their own flower pot with any color plastic gem stone, sticky stars, glitter, decals and a variety of paint colors. Heather placed them all in a row along the window sill. Our participants really did an excellent job helping to set up for the event.

It was so much fun to see how each participant came up with a different design. Even some of the staff created something special. In addition, participants had lunch with members of the other centers, which they always enjoy.

And what did they do with their fabulous creations? They could give them to their mom, dad or anyone else who means a lot to them. Or, if they wanted, they could even keep the gift for themselves. The event was a great success. We might have to host one every year!
