Jenna Horton

Jenna Horton began her role as Supervisor of Community Opportunities Club-North, a day program for individuals with brain injuries and physical disabilities, in July 2018. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse with a Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation and is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. She began working for Goodwill in 2017 as a recreation assistant and has enjoyed getting to know all the wonderful participants. In her spare time, she enjoys kayaking, playing with her kittens, and sitting out by the fire.

October was National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). That is an annual awareness campaign to educate the public about disability employment issues and celebrate the many contributions of America’s workers with disabilities.

Goodwill celebrates this month with a variety of fun and educational activities. One of the most anticipated events that Goodwill holds, in cooperation with the Milwaukee Office for Persons with Disabilities, is the TAP the Potential Fashion Show which has been taking place for many years. This year’s show took place on Friday October 25 at the Wil-O-Way Underwood building that houses our Community Opportunities Club North in Wauwatosa.

Goodwill Community Opportunities Club North "walks" to Des Moines

The Goodwill Community Opportunities Club (COC) North offers a variety of activities to involve participants. One club, though, Mileage Club, consistently has the most people participating. Mileage Club is an optional activity for participants to be part of and was created to fill the need for an active lifestyle for the participants. Each day, the members go outside and walk around the wonderful 1/5-mile track behind COC North. The group chooses a destination within the United States and collectively works toward walking the miles to that destination.
