NFL Auction Supports Goodwill through My Cause My Cleats Initiative

Posted by Gazelle DeWerff on February 9, 2021

In support of the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats campaign, two custom-designed game-worn cleats represented by the Green Bay Packers Marquez Valdes-Scantling and the Chicago Bears Ryan Nall are being auctioned off now through February 15, 2021. All proceeds of the sales will benefit Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin & Metropolitan Chicago.

The annual My Cause My Cleats initiative allows NFL players across the league to choose organizations and causes that are meaningful to them. Players worked with artists and cleat manufacturers to create custom-designed cleats and wore them during Week 13 of the 2020 NFL season. This year, both players were honored to represent Goodwill because of its mission to help individuals with disabilities and disadvantages improve their lives through employment opportunities, training, and supportive services.

Packers' wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling supports Goodwill because of its mission and values. “I’ve always been the type to give back to the less fortunate and I think that’s what this organization is all about. Goodwill accepts donations so that they can give back to the people who don’t have as much, and I think it’s something that’s always been near and dear to my heart.”

In his first year participating in the My Cause My Cleats initiative, Bears running back Ryan Nall expressed that the campaign is a creative way for players to bring attention to causes they feel are important to them. “Goodwill has always been a part of my life, whether it’s through donating my toys and clothes or vice-versa. I buy a handful of things from Goodwill every year. My wife also loves to thrift there all the time. Goodwill is overlooked sometimes, and people don’t always understand what they do for individuals who are less fortunate than most of us. Working with them has been a great opportunity to help spread awareness and hopefully get more people to donate.
