Over the summer, Goodwill worked in partnership with The Dominican Center to host their Earn and Learn Program participants for a day of education at the James O. Wright Center for Work and Training on Milwaukee’s northwest side. The event, Preparing for Success aimed to provide students from local high schools with knowledge, tools and resources to assist not only themselves but job seekers in their community in search of employment opportunities.

With a new school year just around the corner — as many students are preparing to head back to the classroom this fall, this back-to-school shopping season is an extra-special one. After more than a year of online classes, many students have changed their styles and are discovering the fashions that suit them best. Kids and adults alike are ready to show off their individual personalities to the world and there’s no better place to find unique outfits and distinctive school supplies than at Goodwill.

For many homebound seniors, the likelihood of becoming isolated from their natural social structures like family and friends is very high. When you add in the effects of a global pandemic, the risk of facing those challenges jumps exponentially.

Goodwill is highlighting the important work being done by employer partners like The Milwaukee Bucks around mental health awareness. The organization has worked with Goodwill’s Individual Placement and Support (IPS) team as well as job seekers in the past and are continuing their commitment to assist employees in taking care of their mental health.

This May, during Older Americans Month we recognize the contributions older Americans make in our lives.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, it’s important to remember that mental health is an important part of a person’s overall health. In the workplace, when employees prioritize their health and well-being, everyone benefits. Goodwill’s Individual Placement and Support (IPS) team help people facing mental illness and/or substance use disorders find and keep jobs. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, one in five U.S. adults experience mental illness each year.
