Web Resources for Individuals with Disabilities and Their Families

The following list of sites and links provides rapid access to a wide range of Web resources that might be of value to individuals with disabilities and their families. These links might also be of value to human service agencies and organizations.

FAMILY VILLAGE Describes itself as "A Global Community of Disability-Related Resources." It is organized and updated through the Waisman Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison http://www.familyvillage.wisc.edu

THE ARC OF THE U.S. WEB SITE
This is The Arc Home Page. "With more than 1,100 affiliated chapters and 140,000 members across the United States, The Arc (formerly Association for Retarded Citizens of the United States) is the country's largest voluntary organization committed to the welfare of all children and adults with mental retardation and their families." This site offers a limited number of links, but they lead quickly to other useful resources. http://TheArc.org

CATAPULT: PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
This page is also titled "Persons With Disabilities Student Guides." It contains a short list of links to sites that focus primarily, but not exclusively, on students. http://www.jobweb.org/catapult/guides/disabled.htm

OSERS: NATIONAL INSTITUTE ON DISABILITY AND REHABILITATION RESEARCH (NIDRR)
While the number of links on this page are few, they provide access to sources with national stature. This site also provides a link to "Other Disability and Rehabilitation Resources." http://www.ed.gov/offices/OSERS/NIDRR/

INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES EDUCATION ACT (IDEA)
Is also titled "Individuals with Disabilities Education Act - Deafness Hard of Hearing - Net Links. This site contains a short, but potentially useful, list of resources related to the IDEA. http://deafness.miningco.com/msubidea.htm

SOCIAL SECURITY FORMS
Is also titled "Social Security Forms - U.S. Government Info/Resources." Like the "Catapult..." page above, this site is also made available by The Mining Co. http://usgovinfo.miningco.com/blfrmssa.htm

ALLIANCE FOR TECHNOLOGY ACCESS:
"Connecting children and adults with disabilities to technology tools. The alliance for Technology Access (ATA) is a network of community-based resource centers, developers and vendors dedicated to providing information and support services to children and adults with disabilities, and increasing their use of standard, assistive, and information technologies." http://www.ataccess.org

AbilITy Connection:
AbilITy Connection is a Goodwill program that offers mentoring, internships, scholarships and job placement services to students with disabilities who are interested in pursuing a career in information technology. Through dedicated professionals who serve as mentors, students receive the guidance, experience, and insight needed to prepare them for future employment. http://www.abilityconnection.org

LD ONLINE: FINDING HELP: WISCONSIN STATE RESOURCES:
This site contains information about Wisconsin State Resources for individuals with learning disabilities, especially children. It lists both government agencies and local organizations, and provides additional links to other states and resources. http://www.ldonline.org/finding_help/local_org/wisconsin.html
